Our Process

Kitchen Studio provides custom design solutions tailored to your specific needs. We work with you to develop your dream kitchen, bath, custom closets, entertainment centers and office – from concept to completion. Whether you have new construction, you want to tear out what you currently have down to the studs or move walls, or you want to keep your same footprint and update the look with new cabinets and fixtures, we're here to help you. Below, we'll walk you through the typical steps of a project. If you would like more information about the design process and what to expect, you may want to check out our Kitchen Talk seminar, free of charge.

1 - Initial Consult
Original Measurements

The first step to designing your kitchen is for us to meet with you, typically in your home, to gather the information needed in order to customize a design for you. We take measurements and pictures of the space, and talk with you about how you use it. Who is the primary cook? Do any other activities take place in the kitchen? Are there features or accessories you just have to have? What style are you going for? This is not a design meeting, but a fact gathering session to learn as much as we can about what you're looking for. If you already have plans and measurements of your space, we can set up a meeting in our showroom if you prefer.

2 - Preliminary Design
Concept Sketches
Rough Drawings

After we gather the information we need, we come back to the studio and get to work. We transfer our initial measurements into CAD and work out some basic design concepts. We meet with you a second time to show you some rough ideas for your kitchen and to discuss pricing. Your design is basic at this point, more conceptual as we continue to work with you to determine your needs. By now we have a grasp of what you want for your kitchen, and we're able to work with you on your investment parameters.

Throughout the design process, all retainers and payments will later be applied to the cost of cabinetry. By the end of your project, you are not actually paying a separate design fee. We think that's a pretty good deal!

3 - Design Phase

Through a series of meetings and conversations with you, we develop and finalize a design for your space. By now you will have chosen the type of cabinets and finish you want, and we will work with you to determine which appliances and fixtures best fit your needs, your budget, and your design.

We create a full set of detailed CAD plans that we then use to write the order for your custom cabinets, and we create detailed drawings of each custom cabinet for the manufacturer. Our designs do not use out-of-the-box cabinets (such as found in big warehouse hardware stores) - every cabinet is custom made just for you, based on our drawings and specifications. We take great care to produce accurate and detailed plans which can be used by the cabinet manufacturer, the contractor, the installer, and all third parties.

When we have a finalized plan that you are thrilled with, we write up an order and work with the factory to make sure that everything is correct. As we await production we finalize the plans and details, make a packet of your appliance information for all third parties, and we acquire all necessary bids that we will be handling, such as countertops, pulls, and fixtures. We work closely with the cabinet manufacturer to ensure that your cabinets are created as we designed them. We are also in close communication with your contractor, installer, and/or architect, to make sure that the jobsite will be ready for your cabinets when they arrive. Timing should be close, so that you are not without your old kitchen or bath any longer than is needed to install your new one.

4 - Installation

When your cabinets arrive and the jobsite is ready for installation, we work closely with the installer and contractor to make sure that our plans are followed and your kitchen is installed as you envisioned it. We provide full sets of plans and details, and will often travel to the jobsite to point out details and clarify design elements for the installer and contractor. At no point are you left to handle the installation on your own - we see the project through to completion.

5 - Completion

The project is complete, and it's time to enjoy your beautiful new kitchen!
